Pondering God #3: The Immutability of The Unchanging One אֶחָד [Echad]

God is the Almighty Unchanging One. Quite frankly I wouldn’t want Him to change either. We now live in a country (and world) where truth, words and the idea that something can be absolute has become taboo. Because of this we as humans routinely kill unborn babies and call it choice. Liberal and liberation used to mean freedom not oppression. Laws were based on inalienable rights given to us by God not based on case law and decisions handed down by other judges based in their opinions and their capriciousness. Tolerance was a form of forgiveness and not an excuse for ignoring blatantly obvious sin or ignoring people that chose to live immoral lives.

We now have rampant premarital intercourse and out of wedlock intercourse that brings children into the world that effectively have only one parent. Truth has become relative. We cannot figure out what end is up. It is because we have lost any connection to absolute truth and connection to a moral absolute which is God. At the all levels we have lost our bearings. Since abandoning God, God is now beginning to abandon us. When the boat starts spinning in the storm and you start loosing your bearings you try to find something that is an anchor to stablize the boat or head towards shore. If we rely on man, we are throwing the anchor overboard without a rope attached to it and tossing the compass too.

And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness…~Romans 1:28-29

As a Christian I deny the lack of an absolute truth. I believe there are moral directions and absolute truths. I believe the basis for and the incarnation of truth itself is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is truth and the immutable truth that comes from Him is absolute. We need this immutability because it acts as an anchor in a chaotic & deteriorating universe (entropy) that otherwise has absolutely no hope. He is the lighthouse that beckons all the lost ships at sea.

-"Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me." John 14:6

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being."~John 1:1-3

I take this whole "God thing" dead serious and so should you. When the world system or sin torpedoes your ship and the boat starts to go down, it isn't going to go halfway down and stop and then resurface...its heading for the bottom like the Titanic. Once sin finds the cracks it fills the hull until you can no longer stay above water, then you disappear below the surface into the depths. Forever.

You are not unsinkable and it is better to realize this and head for safe harbor rather than to try and ride out the storm.

We will not be able to convince God that sinful/deviant lifestyles are “alternative lifestyles” subject to choice. We will not be able to convince God that truth is relative to the observer. If we rely on God we don't just get an anchor to steady our boat, we get the harbor that is tranquil and safe. He is the light in the darkness that guides us to shore. He calms the waters and distances us from the chaos. When the entire world is in motion, in disarray and we cannot get our bearings…it is God that is the rock in this storm of postmodernism. He is the One we can moor our lives to in the churning ambiguity and chaos that the world has become.
