apologia / ἀπολογία

Apologia ἀπολογία

...from which we get the word apology.  Often referred to as a defense of something. It is better understood as a well-reasoned reply; a thought-out response to adequately address the issue that is raised. To reason for one’s defense or explain one’s behavior. A justification of said behavior whether it be right or wrong. It can sometimes mean a vindication also. So, ironically, when someone says, “I’m sorry,” technically it isn’t an apology. Generally, it refers to the defense of Christianity against non-Christian philosophy or religions.

Acts 22:1, Philippians 1:7, 1:17, 1 Peter 3:15
