Father's Day is a day to honor fathers for their proper character
as Godly role models for their children. Let us not forget that the behavior we
are called to and rewarded for today isn't a once a year thing. The honor is
earned and the behavior needs to be year round. If you are like me, being that
role model is not always easy and I seek forgiveness from my Father in Heaven
for failing like the sinful man that I am. Every week, every day and every hour
we are called to righteous goodly conduct not only towards our children but
also before God. This serves a two-fold purpose. It sanctifies us with the work
of the Spirit moving us one step closer to glorification in Christ Jesus.
Secondly, it sears an indelible image in the minds and psyche of our children
that becomes so much a part of what they are in their very nature, they would
not know how to act without it. In this way our earthly fathers become us and
we become like our earthly fathers. In this way our Heavenly Father becomes us
and we become like the Heavenly Father. For
it is written: Be ye holy for I am holy. Amen.
